Michele Dobner was born in 1967. He started studying classical music when
he was very young and also attended a fine arts school. In 1988, he
collaborated with Dr. Marco Tiella on a research project dedicated to violin
making in countries of Eastern Europe.
In 1990, he obtained a diploma with high votes from the Civica Scuola di
liuteria of Milan under the supervision of teachers Luca Primon and Gabriele Negri.
Thanks to the collaboration with noted musicians, he was able to get more familiar
with forms and models used by some of the most important makers working in Milan at
the beginning of the 20th Century, such as G. Ornati and F. Garimberti.
In 1955, he moved to Madrid (Spain) and completed his studies in instrument restoration
and set up with Maestro J. M. Lozano.
Michele Dobner hasparticipated in numerous national and international competitions,
and received honorable mentions for the quality of his craftsmanship.
Michele has recently settled in Cremona where he makes and restores instruments of
the violin family, drawing inspiration from the masters of the Classical Cremonese
school (Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesł).
A particular care is dedicated to the sound set up of the instruments made in his
workshop, applying the latest methods in that field.
